State law requires that all animals adopted from shelters be spayed or neutered. If an animal is not already surgically altered, the adopter will receive vouchers to help pay for the procedure. Adopted animals are also wormed, given some vaccinations, and come with a free vet check-up from The Pet Clinic or Airport Animal Clinic (Monroeville) or Animal Clinic & Livestock Supplies (Evergreen).

Please note: The shelter is not set up to take credit/debit cards. Only local checks can be accepted; cash is required for out-of-county fees.

The shelter accepts animals from anywhere in Monroe County without charge; a $25 charge applies to out-of-county animals, which are accepted only if space is available. Because the shelter is usually at capacity, it is best to call ahead before bringing animals, if possible. Only in emergencies should an animal be left after-hours, and then information -- its name, age, temperament, vaccinations, etc. or location where found -- should be furnished.

The Monroe County Animal Shelter staff attempts to return lost pets to their owners, so anyone who has lost or found a pet should contact the shelter immediately. Our goal is to find homes for as many abandoned animals as possible, but our resources are limited. We accept monetary contribution or donated supplies. (For current needs, please contact the shelter). The cooperation of the public is greatly appreciated, and visitors to the shelter are welcome!
