Fifty-five children and teens were sworn in as junior police officers for a day, toured the Monroeville Police Department (MPD), received school supplies, backpacks and a sack lunch last Friday compliments of the MPD.

Cpt. Alfred Carter said the supplies and backpacks were purchased with donations from local businesses and individuals.

Joyce McPherson, adminsistrative assis¬tant, Carter, Lt. Eric Simon and other MPD staff shared information with them about bullying, being approached by strangers and the dangers of using drugs.

The first day of school for Monroe County’s public schools and Monroe Academy was Monday.
